JET Magazine | "Beauty of the Week" History: 1970
Jet magazine published its first pin-up, also known as the “Beauty of the Week”, on November 27, 1952 with a black-and-white centerfold of bikini-clad dancer Dolores Harper.
The pin-up section was an instant hit with male and female readers alike, with everyone from aspiring actresses and flight attendants, to teachers and secretaries submitting pictures for consideration.
By the fall of 1963, Jet was selling full-color pin-up calendars featuring partially-clothed and nude women.
As the sixties drew to a close, the Jet magazine pin-up section changed from a centerfold to a single page then went full-color in the fall of 1970.
